LOUISE HOFFMAN AWARD FOR
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN
GRADUATE RESEARCH
Jennifer Heemstra’s graduate research on phenylene ethynlene oligomers as synthetic enzyme mimics has lead to an impressive number of scientific accomplishments in the past three years. These accomplishments include five publications, including two in the prestige Journal of the American Chemical Society. Her research advisor, Professor James Nowick describes Jennifer as smart with an excellent work ethic. He goes on to say that she is one of the very best graduate students at the University of Illinois in recent years. Professor Steven Zimmerman predicts that Jennifer and her work will become well known to the entire chemistry community in due course.
