IOTA SIGMA PI ANNA
LOUISE HOFFMAN AWARD FOR
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN GRADUATE RESEARCH
Lydmila (Lyuda)
Slipchenko, University of Southern California
Lyuda Slipchenko’s graduate research in theoretical chemistry has
resulted in a number of publications in high quality journals including the
prestigious Anew. Chem. Int. Ed. Her research advisor, Professor Anna
Krylov, describes Lyuda as exceptionally bright, creative, daring, ambitious and
hard working. The main goal f her research is to develop robust and accurate
electronic structure methods for studying open-shell molecules. Her recent
discovery of anti-ferromagnetic coupling in some hydrocarbon triradicals is
particularly noteworthy says Professor Krylov. Lyuda’s accomplishments are even
more amazing given that she is the mother of two young children.
